Kei and Yuri are the two voluptuous members of Trouble Consultant team 234, code named "Lovely Angels". Almost every mission they are involved with ends up in disaster, but not failure (they'll catch the crook, but a city may be destroyed in the process), and thus they are more generally known as the "Dirty Pair", a nickname they hate. They are always cleared of any wrongdoing by the 3WA's Central Computer because the extreme damage is never actually their fault (though their mere presence has been known to make things worse). In some but not all continuities, they have joint ESP powers, usually limited to precognition. This talent was the reason they were recruited in the first place.(This is alluded to in the Adam Warren Collection "A Plague Of Angels")

• Kei: a hot-headed tomboy with red hair and tanned skin who wears a silver-white uniform. Favors large weaponry and prefers to "shoot first, ask questions later". The more aggressive of the two, she is also the bustier of the pair and is attracted to manly, muscular men.

• Yuri: Japanese in ethnicity, wears a golden-yellow uniform. Often uses non-gun weaponry such as energy whips. While the more feminine of the two, she is known to become very violent when crossed. She is the more bottom-heavy of the team and is also a coy flirt who prefers cultured, refined men. Her most recognized weapon is the Bloody Card, a technologically-enhanced throwing card that can be used to take down several people at once. While Yuri often uses it in the novels, it only appears in the anime a few times, once in Affair of Nolandia, in Flight 005 Conspiracy, and in episode 6 of the OVA series. In that episode, it is used by Madame Beryl instead of Yuri. In the comic series, it is used in the stories "Biohazards" and "Start The Violence".

The first season of She-Ra: Princess of Power series will be released on DVD, She-Ra: Volume 1, Season 1 (20 episodes; $19.93 SRP) and through digital downloads on iTunes (www.itunes.com) and Hulu. In addition, for the first time, the entire series is coming to DVD, She-Ra: The Complete Series 25th Anniversary Edition (93 episodes; $99.93 SRP). Anime Midstream
Anime Midstream Inc. announced today that Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh will now be known as Matchless Raijin-Oh due to copyright updates with Sunrise. Matchless Raijin-Oh DVD Volume 2 will be available for release on September 13th. The second volume includes episodes 6 through 10 of the 51 episode series in both English Language and Japanese Language with English Subtitles along with DVD extras. The DVD will be available at Anime Midstream's website and other online stores.

FUNimation
FUNimation Entertainment today announced that it has acquired home entertainment, broadcast and digital rights for the fantasy adventure series “Disgaea” from d-rights.

The 12-episode series is directed by Kiyotaka Isako (“Love Hina” and “Utawarerumono”) and based on the popular Disgaea role-playing games developed by Nippon Ichi Software.

As a competitor to Godzilla in the Sixties, Gamera developed a strong following in and out of Japan, and with Gamera Vs. Gyaos his most famous enemy emerged, one that would play a key role in the Gamera trilogy released in the '90s. Like a giant bat fused with a shark's head, the laser-spewing Gyaos is discovered in an ancient cave by a young boy named Eiichi and a reporter named Okabe, whose neglect of the child in crisis leads to his death. Once Gyaos is unleashed upon Japan, both Gamera and the country's Self-Defense Forces try to bring down the flying terror. And that's not going to be an easy feat!

While Gamera and Gamera Vs. Kids take an even more prominent role in Gamera Vs. Guiron as two star-gazing Japanese tykes get whisked away by a spaceship to a planet where two "groovy spacegirls" are the sole survivors of a once-superior civilization. But the seemingly hospitable women have sinister plans in store, and Gamera comes to save them and battle their rhino-like guardian Guiron, a formidable beast with a razor-sharp steel blade for a snout. This is one Gamera movie that needs to have the Japanese version seen as it features possibly the worst dubbing job in Japanese monster history. But it's still a camp gem. Space Gyaos makes an appearance, too!

Our favorite flying turtle gets a female foe in Gamera Vs. Jiger, which is set around the 1970 World's Fair in Osaka. When scientists discover a mysterious statue called The Devil's Whistle on a remote island, they steal it away to show at the Fair, which causes it to unleash a high-pitched sound that disturbs the Triceratops-like Jiger, who comes after them to stop the auditory pain she is in. And when she faces down Gamera, she proves to be a nasty foe, able to shoot quills from her head and a heat ray that can dissolve entire city blocks, plus she has a tail stinger that implants eggs into her victims. Gamera eventually has to cope with a baby Jiger growing inside of him. You've got to love the lovably twisted Japanese concept of family entertainment: No holds barred monster smackdowns!

On November 30, 2010, Shout! Factory, in association with Marvel Knights Animation, will debut IRON MAN – EXTREMIS on DVD for the first time. The motion comic adaptation of the story from Warren Ellis and Adi Granov will retail for $14.97.

FUNimation to unleash Evangelion 2.0 movie in 2011

FUNimation also announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandise rights to the animated sci-fi action film EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE from NTV. 

EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE is the second of four films by Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara based on the 1990’s Gainax “Neon Genesis Evangelion” anime series, a long-running anime about teenagers defending the world from machines and mass destruction.

 The film is produced by Toshimichi Otsuki and directed by Hideaki Anno, Masayuki, and Kazuya Tsurumaki from the screenplay written by Anno. The mechanical designer is Ikuto Yamashita.  

The setting is Tokyo 3, an outpost in a future world devastated by the "Second Impact." Attacked by shape-shifting mecha-behemoths known as “Angels”, what's left of Earth is defended by giant "Eva" robots piloted by high school students. Selected for duty by NERV, a top-secret military organization, the children are linked to their Evas by a design feature that channels the spirits of deceased family members into the machine's circuitry. The lead pilot is Shinji (voiced by Ogata), the troubled son of emotionally distant NERV scientist Gendou Ikari. Rebelling against his predestined path, Shinji is brought back into the fold by teacher-mother figure Misato Katsuragi (Mitsuishi) and fellow pilot Rei (Hayashibara).  

FUNimation Entertainment will release the film on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011.

FUNimation launches SUMMER WARS

FUNimation Entertainment announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, theatrical, broadcast and merchandise rights to the animated sci-fi action film SUMMER WARS from NTV. 

Released in August 2009 in Japan by Warner Brothers, SUMMER WARS is produced by Madhouse and directed by Mamoru Hosoda. SUMMER WARS is the second full-length film that Hosoda has made as a freelance director. The first, THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME, an animated movie in which the teenage heroine discovers that she can travel to the past, received rave reviews from critics and audiences worldwide.  

SUMMER WARS reunites many who worked on that film, including scriptwriter Satoko Okudera and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.  

The SUMMER WARS story begins with Kenji, a timid math prodigy who seems better suited for virtual worlds than his more intimidating high school. When class cutie Natsuki asks Kenji to accompany her on a family trip to celebrate her great-grandmother’s 90th birthday, he instantly agrees, not realizing she intends to present him to her family as her fiance - a ruse that forces Kenji, who hides behind an avatar online, to role-play in the real world as well.  

The plot thickens after Kenji solves a math riddle that inadvertently brings a worldwide social networking site to its knees and throws the real world into confusion. Suddenly, this large family in rural Japan must work together to stave off a world crisis.  

FUNimation Entertainment will release the film theatrically in 2010 and on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011.

Some Conspiracies are More Than Theories

Akira Takizawa wakes up naked outside the White House with no memories. He's got a gun in one hand, a cell phone in the other, and doesn't know if he's a good guy or bad guy. DVD or Blu-ray upgrade options

Similar to what was done with Clannad, Sentai Filmworks is offering up an upgrade program (form here) for their upcoming release of Legends of the Dark King. Sentai has created a new English language dub for the show so fans who purchased the subtitle only edition can now upgrade and save over 55% off the price, according tot he form. In addition to being able to upgrade on the DVD release, you can upgrade to the Blu-ray release if you so choose as well.

To participate in the program, you have to send in the two DVDs, the sleeve art and the plastic case for both the DVD and Blu-ray upgrade program. For the DVD, it will cost $20 to upgrade + $3 for shipping. For the Blu-ray, it will cost $30 for the upgrade plus $3 for shipping.  The normal retail price for the upcoming editions is $49.98 for the DVD and $69.98 for the Blu-ray. 

The upgrade program is running only from May 1st through August 31st of this year and is being handled by Right Stuf International. The offer restrictions make no mention of international shipping, though Canada must pay $6 for shipping. [Source: Mania.com]
